On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Mini-Festival for Peace held in the Danish city of Roskilde on September 1st, the Ambassador of Cuba in Denmark, Yiliam Gómez Sardiñas, highlighted the importance of defending the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as Zone of Peace, a document that constitutes a true historic milestone that enhances peace, which was signed during the II Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), in Havana in 2014. In her speech, the diplomat highlighted the relevance of this appeal, at the growing threats to the world peace and the increase of the arms race, while reminded the call made by Cuba to achieve the general and complete disarmament, including the nuclear disarmament as a priority objective.
It was also an enabling activity to denounce the reinforcement of the unfair blockade policy imposed by the United States government for almost six decades and the damage it continues to cause to the Cuban people.
Cuban doctor Caristina Robaina, who has developed an extensive program of exchange of work with Danish institutions especially in the field of occupational epidemiology, explained in the event the contribution that Cuba makes to peace by sending doctors who contribute to save lives in different regions of the planet. Robaina transmitted her experiences as an internationalist doctor who provided services in Africa and referred to the main achievements of the Cuban health system.
Likewise, organizations such as "Artists for Peace" and "Fredsministerium" added their voices in favor of peace, with the support of other associations and progressive groups in Denmark. In this framework, the program of planned actions in different Danish cities to celebrate the United Nations Day of Peace was announced. (Embacuba Dinamarca)
