Cuban Ambassador denounces the blockade and the US government's measures against Cuba and appreciates UNESCO's contribution to the Cuban people's struggle against this unjust policy

Paris, January 30, 2025. In the framework of the celebration of the 66th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, Cuban Ambassador Maria del Carmen Herrera Caseiro denounced the blockade and the US government's measures against Cuba, highlighting UNESCO's support for the Cuban people's struggle against this unjust policy. In this regard, she recognized the international organization's traditional position of submitting its contribution each year to the UN Secretary-General's report on the effects of the blockade against Cuba.

In her speech, the Cuban diplomat described Cuba's relations with UNESCO as historic and excellent, particularly since the triumph of the Revolution, given the alignment of UNESCO's founding values ​​and principles with the broad program of social, cultural, and educational transformations undertaken by the revolutionary government.

She also emphasized the convergence of both parties in favor of multilateralism and the defense of peace, as well as the promotion of international cooperation, dialogue, and sustainable development as truly effective means to address global challenges.

The event, which took place at the Cuban Embassy in France, was attended by several prominent figures, members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in France and to UNESCO, and UNESCO Secretariat executives and officials. The participation of Stefania Giannini, Assistant Director-General for the Education Sector, was particularly noteworthy.
