Cuba’s Ambassador to Grenada, Yadirys Echenique Paz, spoke at the commemoration of International Workers’ Day, held on the island of Carriacou, where representatives of the Cuban state mission joined Grenadian workers.
In her address, the diplomat noted that workers worldwide face growing challenges, yet solidarity and resilience remain a guiding force. She highlighted that Cuba and Grenada share a long history of friendship, built on ideals of justice, cooperation, and mutual respect, affirming that ties between the two peoples have been strengthened in times of both adversity and triumph.
The Cuban envoy expressed the gratitude of the Cuban people for the constant support received from Grenada, stressing that voices and actions of solidarity reinforce Cuba’s determination to defend its sovereignty and its right to live free from external coercion.
Echenique Paz denounced the economic blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, describing it as an unjust policy aimed at suffocating the economy and punishing the people. She emphasized that the intensified energy siege constitutes a violation of international law and human rights, and runs counter to the principles of solidarity that inspire May Day.
The Cuban representative also called on workers, trade unions, and progressive movements to reaffirm their rejection of the blockade and to demand respect for the right of peoples to self-determination.
