Cuban Ambassador denounces effects of US blockade against Cuba

NASSAU, 19 April 2017.-This morning, the Cuban Ambassador to The Bahamas, Ismara Vargas Walter, offered an interview to the ZNS channel, one of the main Bahamian press media, to once again denounce the hostile blockade imposed by the US against Cuba.

During the interview, the Ambassador expressed her appreciation to the Government of The Bahamas for its continued support within the framework of the United Nations in favor of the Cuban resolution against the blockade. Moreover she explained how the existence and reinforcement of the blockade affects the commercial relations between both countries, based on its marked extraterritorial nature.

Likewise, the Ambassador shared information on the current state of the relations between Cuba and The Bahamas, as well as the areas in which cooperation exists between both countries; with particular emphasis on health, education, agriculture, national security and culture. She also stressed how despite the persistence of the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, every year young Bahamians are benefited with full scholarships offered by the Cuban government in different careers.

Following the announcements made last 16 June by US President Donald Trump, repealing the Presidential Policy Directive "Normalization of US-Cuba Relations," issued by President Obama on October, 2016 and confirming the strengthening of the measures affecting the island, including the unjust unilateral sanctions, the Cuban revolutionary government issued a statement on the matter. Based on this statement, the Cuban diplomat once again emphasized her rejection of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba.
