Christchurch, May 6, 2024.- In a proactive move to foster economic collaboration between Cuba and the Christchurch Chamber of Commerce, the Cuban Ambassador recently held a meeting with Leeann Watson, Chief Executive of Business Canterbury, and Daniel Thompson, Business and Global Trade Advisor.
During the meeting, the Ambassador presented a letter from the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba, highlighting recent changes in Cuban economic policy, including the development of New Economic Actors and other forms of property. Emphasizing the crucial role of foreign investment in Cuba's National Plan for Economic and Social Development until 2030, the letter proposed organizing a virtual meeting in early 2024.
The proposed meeting aims to analyze the possibility of signing a Cooperation Agreement between the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba (CCRC) and the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce (WCC). This agreement would involve developing an action plan to undertake specific tasks in sectors of mutual interest, especially agriculture (coffee and beef cattle), milk and dairy production, fishing, pharmaceuticals, tourism, health tourism, among others.
Additionally, the Ambassador extended an official invitation to attend the 40th edition of the Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2024), the most important multisectoral trade fair in Cuba and one of the most representative in the Caribbean and Latin America. Scheduled from November 5th to 9th at the EXPOCUBA fairgrounds, FIHAV 2024 presents an exceptional opportunity for bilateral meetings between exhibitors, businessmen, and technicians from various sectors of the Cuban economy and foreign businessmen. These meetings aim to facilitate the exchange of ideas and initiatives aimed at attracting more foreign investment.
The meeting between the Cuban Ambassador and Canterbury business leaders underscores the commitment of both parties to explore avenues of economic cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties.
