Cuban Ambassador expresses gratitude for the cypriot people’s solidarity during an appearance on the Radio Program “Radiofonική Πυξίδα."

Nicosia, Cyprus, March 31, 2026.— The Cuban ambassador to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, gave an interview on Monday to the radio program “Radiofonική Πυξίδα” (“Radio Compass”) on Radio ASTRA, where he expressed his gratitude for the solidarity shown by the Cypriot people in support of Cuba. The interview aired during the afternoon broadcast from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., hosted by Neofytos Neofytou and his journalistic team on 92.8 FM.

During the radio appearance, the Cuban diplomat was accompanied by Vera Polycarpou, secretary of the Cuba-Cyprus Friendship Association and also secretary of International Relations for the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL), who together addressed the current situation of the Cuban nation and its people and conveyed a message of appreciation and gratitude to all Cypriot citizens who keep alive the bonds of solidarity and friendship with the largest of the Antilles.

Pino Martínez briefed the Cypriot audience on the critical situation Cuba is currently facing as a result of the criminal and suffocating energy blockade imposed by Trump on the Caribbean nation and on the difficult conditions the Cuban people are enduring in their daily lives. He als o highlighted the challenges the country faces due to the economic sanctions imposed on it and emphasized the importance of international cooperation and the immeasurable value to Cuban families of receiving the wide variety of support and solidarity aid currently being sent to the island from friendly countries and peoples.

A key point of his remarks was his explicit gratitude to those across the island who are helping to fill a new shipment of humanitarian aid, consisting of medicines, medical supplies, infant formula, food, and personal hygiene items, destined for hospitals, social projects, and families in Cuba.

The Cuban diplomatic mission in this capital also expressed its gratitude to the radio station Astra 92.8 FM for providing the most efficient channel of communication to reciprocate the deep solidarity shown by the Cypriot people—an effort shared by the members of the Cuba-Cyprus Friendship Association, the Pan-Cypriot Committee for Peace, and the Caliente Dance Estudio school in Nicosia.

Speaking on behalf of the local Association of Friendship with Cuba, Vera Polycarpou explained to listeners how to direct their donations to specific regional offices of the Pan-Cypriot Federation of Labor (PEO) in cities across the country, which is joining this noble effort of solidarity and civic engagement in support of Cuba.
