Accra, 11 December. – Together with a group of Latin American and Caribbean diplomats accredited in Accra, Ambassador Julio E. Pujol Torres participated in a fruitful meeting with H.E. Ms. Francia Márquez, Vice President of the sister Republic of Colombia, who is on an official visit to Ghana.
Vice President Márquez, who leads the National Government’s Africa–Caribbean strategy and its international cooperation policy with Afro-descendant and Indigenous movements, is currently undertaking a tour of several African countries, with Ghana constituting an essential stop on her agenda.
Following the cordial exchange, the Colombian leader held a brief conversation with the Cuban Ambassador, expressing her appreciation for the education and training of thousands of Colombian physicians in Cuba, as well as for the deployment of many others to developing countries in need of their services.
For his part, Ambassador Pujol Torres conveyed gratitude for the historic solidarity of the Colombian people with Cuba, exemplified by the close friendship between Gabriel García Márquez and Fidel Castro. On the occasion, he presented the Vice President with a copy of the recent book “Reparations” by Ghanaian journalist, editor and politician Kwesi Pratt Jnr.
As part of the delegation’s programme, the Ambassador also exchanged with H.E. Ms. Saia Vergara Jaime, Colombian Vice Minister of Culture, sharing pride in the recent recognition by UNESCO of the Cuban son as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (ICH).
