Cuban ambassador holds fraternal meeting with President of the Green Party of Cyprus

Nicosia, Cyprus, January 27, 2026.- The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, held a fraternal meeting this Tuesday with the President of the Green Party of Cyprus (Movement of Ecologists - Citizen Cooperation), Mr. Stavros Papadouris, who officially received the Cuban diplomat at the party's headquarters, located in the Strovolos District, in this capital.

There, the Cuban ambassador received a warm and fraternal welcome during his first visit to the aforementioned political group, where both parties shared updates and points of bilateral interest related to climate change, the environment, as well as the social, political, and economic context currently affecting both nations amid the current international scenario.

The Cuban diplomat illustrated the difficult situation that the island is currently experiencing, a victim of a six-decade-old policy of economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba; exacerbated by the imposition of hostile measures and economic suffocation against the largest of the Antilles, and intensified following the vile and cowardly imperialist aggression against Venezuela on January 3.

“It is,” Pino Martínez clarified, “a policy that violates not only international law but also U.S. legislation itself, and which lingers as a latent threat against Cuba and other nations in Latin America and the Caribbean; but it also seeks to subjugate and intimidate other governments in our region and around the world, with that worrying global interventionist escalation.”

For his part, Stavros Papadouris expressed his serious concern about the situation, which 'defies all imaginable logic,' while wishing Cuba and its people all possible well-being and prosperity. 'You have entered through this door,' pointed out the President of the Green Party, 'into a second home, and you will have all our support within this group.'

'We will be at your disposal to develop any joint initiative,' Papadouris specified, relying on the relationships of friendship and mutual respect that have characterized the ties between both countries, beyond environmental, social, and economic aspects. It was a fruitful, cordial, and frank exchange that reaffirmed the host political group's interest in strengthening its positions of respect and solidarity toward Cuba, expanding bilateral dialogue, and taking new steps in cooperative relations on matters of mutual interest.

Throughout the meeting, the President of the Green Party of Cyprus, Stavros Papadouris, was accompanied by his ally and former president of the political group, George Perdikis, who did not spare expressions of solidarity towards the Cuban diplomat, his government, and his people.
