Cuban Ambassador holds meeting with Managing Director of the Common Fund for Basic Products.

Amsterdam, March 11, 2024. This afternoon, Ambassador Anet Pino Rivero, held a friendly meeting with the Managing Director of the Common Fund for Commodities, Amb. Sheikh Mohammed Belal.

During the meeting, topics of interest were addressed, such as the importance of the Fund in contributing to the reduction of global poverty and inequality, the insertion mechanisms of developing countries in value chains, and the role played by the global south in the production of Basic Products.

The meeting was an opportune space to exchange on the effects of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government on the island for more than 60 years, and how these unilateral sanctions limit Cuba's ability to fully develop. The blockade has a particular impact on the country's agricultural and livestock production, as well as on Cuba's possibilities for commercial exchange with the world and inserting its Basic Products into international value chains.

In the exchange, he highlighted the impact that the work of the CFC has on developing countries, on the companies to which it provides financing and on the populations of the region where it is integrated. The CFC offers great support to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, the empowerment of women and technology transfer.
