Nassau, April 8, 2026. The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Juan Carlos Marcof Sánchez, was received by the Honourable Fred Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, with whom he held a cordial meeting.
The Cuban Ambassador highlighted the historic ties of friendship that unite Cuba and The Bahamas, and conveyed the willingness to continue strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors. He also expressed appreciation for the support of the Government of The Bahamas in its stance in defense of Cuba and in opposition to the blockade, which has persisted over time.
The occasion provided an opportunity to reaffirm the importance Cuba attaches to its relations with the countries of CARICOM.
The Ambassador also provided an update on the complex situation currently facing the country as a result of the tightening of the blockade, particularly in the energy sector.
For his part, Minister Mitchell—who also serves as a Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP)—noted the positive state of relations between the two countries, underscored by the historic ties between their respective leaders. The Minister reaffirmed The Bahamas’ position against the blockade and expressed appreciation for Cuba’s contributions to the Bahamian people in key sectors, particularly in health and education
