LAS BAHAMAS, 4th November 2016. -The Cuban Ambassador to the Bahamas, Ismara Vargas Walter, attended as a special guest the radio program "Let's Talk Live", Radio Guardian's 96.9, hosted by the veteran journalist Carlton Smith.
During the interview, the Ambassador called again for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, calling it the main obstacle to the normalization of relations between the two countries and the greatest obstacle to developing despite the reestablishment of diplomatic relations. She also referred to the historic vote in the United Nations against the blockade, with the abstention of the US and Israel. Besides, she thanked the government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas for its continued support to Cuba in this forum every year and the statement by the Bahamian Minister of Foreign Affairs in the General Assembly.
Another important issue highlighted by the Ambassador was the recent election of Cuba as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council, based on the work carried out by the government for years and the measures adopted in order to guarantee the main achievements of the Cuban Revolution.
On the other hand, the Cuban diplomat had the opportunity to convey to the Bahamian audience topics of interest related to the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries, the ongoing natural cultural exchange, the scholarships offered by Cuba every year to Bahamian students, as well as the visits she has made to different hospitals and educational centers in Nassau and in other family islands of the Bahamian archipelago.
Taking into account the current celebration in Cuba of the Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2016), the occasion was opportune to talk about the new Portfolio of Foreign Investment Opportunities in Cuba 2016-2017 and the participation of Bahamian businessmen at this event.
The host, for his part, was interested in the existing collaboration between both countries, mainly in the sectors of health and education, as well as the conditions in which Cuba is immersed in the process of recovery, following the passage of Hurricane Matthew through the eastern part of the Caribbean country.
