The Cuban Ambassador to Ireland participated in the James Connolly Festival organized by the Communist Party of Ireland.

Dublin May 2019. Within the framework of the various activities planned for the fifth edition of the James Connolly Festival, organized by the Communist Party of Ireland, Cuban Ambassador Hugo René Ramos Milanés was invited to participate in a debate entitled "The World is in a state of crisis, why? "

Along with Cuban diplomat Eugene McCartan, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Ireland and Moataz Kkalifa, of the Communist Party of Sudan, spoke.

The panelists addressed various topics of international news such as the growth of regional tensions that threaten new wars, the new weapons spiral, the threats of commercial wars, the irrational consumerism against the depletion of the planet's natural resources, the growing threats to the environment ambient. Wars, hunger and natural disasters that displace millions of people in front of those there are who want to build walls, or simply let the sea swallow up those who flee from so much misery, even if neither walls nor oceans can eradicate poverty. Xenophobia grows and neo-fascist forces make their way into politics and settle in parliaments and governments.

In developed nations millions of people do not escape exclusion: unemployment, job insecurity, low income, cuts in public spending on education and health, housing crisis, among other calamities deepen the gap between rich and poor.

An important part of the debate was focused on what to do to counteract these tendencies, in the understanding that today it is not enough to denounce, it is urgent to carry out the policy changes.

Below we share some ideas exposed during the debate:

There is no doubt that the Donald Trump government develops particularly aggressive policies in various sectors and regions. He is unaware of multilateralism, he has withdrawn US from international treaties and organisms. It has returned to the most tense moments of the cold war, if it was ever abandoned.

What legacy Trump is leaving: cancels commercial agreements with other States or blocks; unleashes a trade war with China; withdrew from the Paris agreement for the protection of the environment; denounces the agreement on nuclear weapons with Russia, increases military spending and demands greater contributions to its NATO partners; withdrew from the nuclear agreement with Iran, imposes severe sanctions on this State, raises the tension in the Persian Gulf; strengthens the strategic alliance with Israel and tramples on the rights of the people of Palestine recognized in the UN; he began negotiations with North Korea because they believed that they would impose an unconditional surrender; deploys a systematic aggression towards progressive states of LAC and reinforces alliance with regional right; The list can be endless.

Trump is a magnate who thinks he can govern the world as he governs his companies, but the greatest danger is that he is not alone, he represents the interests of the sectors of the military industrial complex, the neoliberal doctrine.

ALC is one of the regions that accumulates the greatest inequality in the distribution of wealth, that made possible the emergence of progressive governments and that these began to operate important changes in favor of the large masses.

Faced with these changes, the continental oligarchy and Yankee imperialism began to regroup forces and weave destabilizing alliances.

The destabilization campaigns against Nicaragua and Venezuela are not new. Let's not forget the coup d'etat in Honduras against President Zelaya. Let's not forget how many actions of destabilization have had to face progressive leaders such as Lula, Correa or Evo Morales.

Venezuela has abundant natural resources that President Hugo Chávez put at the disposal of his people for the first time in the history of that country. His solidary vocation encouraged him to weave important agreements of true cooperation with other Latin American nations and the Caribbean Islands.

The Bolivarian Revolution represents a danger for the Latin American oligarchies, an example to eradicate, that is why they have not had a day of peace. Everything that Chávez managed to do in favor of the humble people of Venezuela after having nationalized the oil, was confronted with internal and external aggressions. After Chávez's death they believed that it would be easier for them to defeat President Nicolás Maduro, that his people, anguished after years of hardships caused by economic aggressions, would give in. They have not succeeded because the arrogance and the thirst for revenge have prevented them from acting objectively. They underestimated the strength of the Revolution and believed that their puppet would actually achieve in a month to overthrow the Revolution. They do not know that the Bolivarian Armed Forces of today are not the oligarchic generals that Chávez found, but new generals, humble sons of that people.

Despite many advances, Venezuela has not overcome its high dependence on oil revenues. The fall in oil prices has had a negative impact on the economy, but the economic crisis in Venezuela has a lot to do with years of aggression and destabilization, it has to do with severe economic sanctions, it has to do with the kidnapping of dozens of billions of dollars in banks in the US and Europe mainly.

A military intervention will not solve the problems in Venezuela, it will aggravate them and may create a situation similar or worse than that of Libya, with serious consequences for the region. The solution in Venezuela goes through negotiation, dialogue, without imperialist interference.

Cuba has given a sample of maturity of its democracy, a new constitution has been widely approved in referendum, after a broad and enriching process of popular consultation. A whole people turns with renewed energies next to the new and old leaders in the battle of each day to overcome the economic difficulties, to achieve a prosperous and efficient economy that guarantees the durability of the great conquests of the Revolution and adds new ones.

The Yankee government intensifies its blockade, puts into practice new sanctions and aggressions of all kinds. It strives to internationalize the effects of that cruel and archaic blockade through the Helms Burton law. They pretend to ignore six decades of failures but they will not be able to surrender the will of a people that accumulates 60 years of victories to which they have never managed to put out their smile and their feelings of solidarity towards other peoples.

They will be able to flood the public opinion with campaigns of lies, intrigues and slander, they will succeed in deceiving some, but it is impossible to deceive all humanity.

It is urgent to continue fighting to spread our truths. It is urgent to continue weaving alliances, adding wills, convinced that a better world is possible and deserves to fight for that cause.
