Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, 14 September 2019. Between September 11 and 12, the Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica, H.E. Mrs. Inés Fors Fernández, and the Head of the Consular Office of the diplomatic mission in that country, Mr. Ulises Calvo Borges, developed an extensive program of activities in Cayman Islands.
The work agenda included a meeting with the Honourable Governor of that British overseas territory, H.E Mr. Martyn Roper, OBE, and was also attended by the Honourable Deputy Governor, Mr. Franz Manderson, MBE, CERT.HON, JP, and other senior dignitaries of the Cayman Islands Government. Paying courtesy calls on the Honourable Premier, Mr. Alden McLaughlin, MBE, JP and the Honourable Attorney General, Mr. Samuel Bulgin, QC, JP was also part of the agenda.
Of special significance was the intense program of meetings with the Caymanian entities dealing with migratory, border and foreign affairs, which are issues of common interest in the bilateral agenda.
The visit also aimed to encourage economic ties between both nations. In this regard, exchanges were held with the top executives of the Ministry of Foreign Trade, Investment, Aviation and Maritime Affairs in the Cayman Islands; as well as the Chamber of Commerce of that territory.
Local authorities stressed the important place that the Cuban community has among the nationalities that cohabit the Cayman Islands, and acknowledged the historical links existing between Cayman and Cuba, mainly with Isla de la Juventud, where a significant Caymanian colony settled during the last century.
