Kingston, 15 February 2023. Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica Fermín Quiñones Sánchez held a courtesy meeting with Senator Delroy Williams, Mayor of Kingston and St. Andrew.
During the exchange, both officials highlighted the close historical ties between Cuba and the city of Kingston, where many Cuban patriots, including the Maceo family, resided for some time during the so-called "fruitful truce".
The Cuban diplomat referred to the existing potential for continuing to expand bilateral cooperation and trade, despite the brutal impact of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade on the Cuban economy. In this sense, areas such as the restoration of monuments and historical sites and the fight against natural disasters were identified.
For his part, Senator Williams outlined the urban planning policy developed under his mandate in the Jamaican capital and the extensive work to rescue the city's heritage, while recognising the cooperation offered by our country in the education and health sectors, with the presence in Kingston of more than one hundred collaborators in various local institutions.
