Nairobi, May 25. The Cuban ambassador to Kenya, Ernesto Gómez Diaz, participated today in Nairobi in the celebrations on the occasion of the Africa Day, an event organized by various Kenyan political parties and organizations, under the slogan " Forward ever to World- wide Pan African Unity”.
During the emotional activity, several participants recognized the important role played by Cuba in the liberation of the African continent and thanked the selfless support received from the Island in different sectors after the independence.
Cuba was described as a brother and loyal country for the African peoples, demonstrated by the altruism of its internationalist combatants and civil workers during the hard years of the struggle against colonialism and Apartheid.
Mwandawiro Mghanga, leader of the Communist Party of Kenya and president of the Cuba-Kenya Friendship Society, recalled with emotion the figure of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and advocated for the immediate lifting of the criminal economic, financial and commercial blockade that the United States have imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years.
During his speech, the Cuban Ambassador thanked Africa for its continued solidarity and for its unanimous support in the fight against the blockade, both in the UN General Assembly and in the African Union.
At another point in his intervention, the Cuban diplomat reconized the great influence that African slaves, brought by force to Cuba in the colonial period, had on the development of Cuban consciousness and nationality.
The celebrations for the Africa Day in Kenya took place in an atmosphere of solidarity and brotherhood with Cuba, and under strict sanitary measures motivated by the ravages that Covid-19 has caused throughout the world.
