The Cuban Ambassador to Laos updates on the preparations for the G77 and China Summit.

Vientiane, September 2023. The Cuban ambassador to the Lao PDR, Enna Viant Valdés, thanked the Lao Press in Foreign Languages, Vientiane Times, for the attention paid to the information provided on the development of the preparations for the Summit of the Group of 77 and China, which will take place in Havana on September 15 and 16, 2023, under the theme "Current development challenges: Role of science, technology and innovation."

The diplomat reported on the active work of Cuba, pro tempore president of that important international organization made up of 134 members, whose countries have relevant economies such as China and Brazil and other developing countries, which seek to articulate common lines on the international stage. .

In the present 2023, Cuba has promoted the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in the midst of a context marked by the crisis generated by the pandemic, international war conflicts and the lack of raw materials.

Likewise, she has worked to stimulate international solidarity and cooperation after the difficult pandemic period caused by COVID-19. In this context She highlighted the intervention of the Cuban Foreign Minister in various ministerial meetings of the G77, when referring to South-South cooperation as an effective and indispensable instrument, while promoting the full fulfillment of the responsibility of the industrialized countries in supporting, through cooperation North -South.

Likewise, Viant Valdés reaffirmed the usefulness of the debate on other proposals that encourage the advancement of common positions among members, preserve and consolidate the unity of the group, support the multilateral trade system and defend universal access to education and health. quality. In this sense, different meetings of the ministers of education, Culture, Tourism, Science and Technology have been held in Havana.

The Summit, She said, will be modest but significant, as it will be a setting for the necessary exchange in the face of immediate upcoming international events such as the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly and the COP28 Climate Change Conference of the Parties. among other important meetings.

Finally, the Cuban Ambassador highlighted Cuba's intention and work to represent the voice of the countries of the South and the imprint of the presidency in the G77 during the recently held Summit of the BRICS member countries. The intervention of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stressed that the member countries of the G77 have the responsibility and the possibility of acting for a change in the unjust world order, since it is not an option, but rather it is the only alternative, for an important group. whose members represent two thirds of the members of the United Nations system and 80% of the world population.
