Cuban Ambassador meets with Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs of Nigeria

Abuja, April 1, 2026.– The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, held a fruitful meeting with the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, during which issues of bilateral and international interest were discussed.

During the exchange, the Cuban diplomat provided a detailed update on the complex situation facing Cuba, marked by the tightening of the blockade imposed by the United States. In particular, she referred to the impact of recent measures, including provisions associated with the administration of President Donald Trump, which envisage the imposition of sanctions on third countries attempting to sell or supply oil to the Island.

For his part, Senator Abubakar Sani Bello highlighted the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between both countries, while reiterating Nigeria’s firm support for Cuba in multilateral fora, including the United Nations General Assembly and the African Union. He also expressed recognition for the resilience of the Cuban people in the face of adversity.

He further reaffirmed Nigeria’s willingness to continue supporting brotherly nations such as Cuba and expressed admiration for the firmness and dignity with which the Caribbean nation faces current challenges.

The Senator was accompanied by one of his senior advisers, Mr. Uaman G. Gubio, while the Cuban delegation also included Third Secretary of the Embassy, Ana Flavia Gómez Pavot.
