Auckland, April 27, 2025.- The Cuban Ambassador to New Zealand, Luis Ernesto Morejón Rodríguez, held a warm and meaningful meeting with members of the Cuba Friendship Association in Auckland, aimed at strengthening ties of solidarity and sharing updates on the current situation in Cuba.
During the exchange, the Ambassador provided an overview of the main challenges Cuba is facing today in the economic, social, and political spheres. He placed particular emphasis on the severe damage and harm caused by the U.S. administration’s ongoing “maximum pressure” policy, which has further tightened the longstanding economic, commercial, and financial blockade, creating major obstacles to the country’s development and directly affecting the Cuban people.
The Friendship Association reaffirmed its solidarity with Cuba and its opposition to the sanctions regime imposed by Washington, highlighting the various initiatives they promote to raise awareness within New Zealand society about the humanitarian impact of these unilateral coercive measures, as well as their commitment to spreading an informed and supportive view of the Cuban reality.
The meeting served as a testament to the enduring friendship between the peoples of Cuba and New Zealand, and to the valuable role that solidarity movements play in defending justice and sovereignty.
