Suva, September 18, 2026.- Cuban ambassador to Fiji, Néstor Torres, met with Dr. Krupali Tappoo, director of the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Pediatric Cardiology Hospital. The purpose of the meeting was to gain a firsthand understanding of the humanitarian work carried out by this medical center and to explore new avenues for bilateral cooperation in the health sector. Both parties discussed opportunities to strengthen technical exchange, drawing on Cuba’s recognized internationalist track record in the medical field and its willingness to cooperate for the well-being of the people.
During the meeting, the director highlighted the hospital’s impact, noting that it provides 100% free heart surgeries and specialized medical care to children from Fiji and throughout the South Pacific region who suffer from congenital heart defects, thereby relieving numerous families of extreme financial burdens. The work of the Sai Prema Fiji Foundation was highlighted, as it continues to transform Fiji’s healthcare sector by bringing advanced medical treatments to vulnerable families and communities.
