Nassau, April 21th, 2021. This morning, Cuban Ambassador Alejandro García del Toro held a meeting with Ms. Pakesia Parker-Edgecombe, Minister of State for disaster preparedness, management and reconstruction, at the headquarters of that institution . Mrs. Parker-Edgecombie explained the main challenges of the ministry related to the evacuation actions of people and protection of resources, in the face of meteorological events that, year after year, become more frequent, dangerous and devastating.
Alejandro García expressed the willingness of the Cuban Civil Defense to establish cooperation mechanisms that allow them to share their experiences in managing and preparing for hurricanes and other adverse events that occur in the Caribbean. He described the principles and priorities under which the Cuban government's activity in the face of meteorological phenomena is based, which prioritizes safeguarding people's lives at any cost and protecting State resources.
Other senior officials from the aforementioned Bahamian ministry, including permanent secretary Carl Smith, accompanied the minister at the meeting.
