Cuban Ambassador meets with the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture of The Bahamas

Nassau, February 6th, 2020. Cuban Ambassador Alejandro García del Toro paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Lanisha T. Rolle, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

Accompanied by high officials of her institution, the Bahamian minister highlighted the cultural and artistic potential of Cuba and advocated that both parties coordinate and manage musical presentations, dance performances, as well as other artistic shows of our country in this archipelago. As part of the exchange, the need to strengthen the cultural exchange agreement signed in 2015 between the two governments was also identified. The meeting highlighted that the quality and diversity of the Cuban art education system can play an outstanding role to The Bahamas, through the setting of similar programs and methods to train, from the earliest ages, the future artists of the country.

In sports, several disciplines were mentioned in which Cuban teachers and coaches could participate in training courses and programs. This experience would resume projects made years ago when teachers of judo, track and field and other disciplines shared experiences with their Bahamian colleagues.

The permanent secretary David Cates, the director of culture Rowena Poitier-Sutherland and other officials also attended the meeting. Ambassador Alejandro García was accompanied by the counselor Laura Rivas Martínez and the first secretary Yusimí Pompa Santos, both officials of the Cuban diplomatic mission.
