Cuban Ambassador Meets with Secretary General of the Saint Lucia Labour Party

Rodney Bay, April 8, 2026 – A fruitful exchange took place between the Cuban Ambassador to Saint Lucia, Yenielys Vilma Regueiferos Linares, and the Secretary General of the Saint Lucia Labour Party, Leo Clarke. The complex situation in Cuba due to the tightening of the blockade, particularly in the energy sector, and solidarity with the Cuban people were the focus of the discussion.

The Secretary General expressed his gratitude for the meeting, in which both parties discussed the challenges facing both islands and their political organizations. The Ambassador, in turn, acknowledged the expressions of solidarity with Cuba from leaders and members of the Party.

In the current context, the Caribbean has been highly vulnerable to pressure from the United States, especially regarding cooperation with Cuba and attacks on fishermen in regional waters, among other sensitive issues.

The Labour Party pioneered bilateral relations with Cuba in 1979 and they have remained strong and in an atmosphere of mutual cooperation ever since.
