Kuala Lumpur, August 30- The Cuban Ambassador to Malaysia, Ibete Fernández Hernández, paid a courtesy call to the President of the Malaysian Parliament (House), Dato Mohamad Ariff bin Md Yusof at the headquarters of the institution that helped identify the ways to strengthen bilateral relations in the parliamentary sector in the near future.
The ambassador provided a broad explanation of the popular consultation process that takes place in Cuba for the reform of the Constitution and gave a copy of the Cuban report on the blockade. He also indicated the support that the island has received from several parliaments in the world against this unjust policy and invited the parliamentary leader to add Malaysia to this initiative.
The new Malaysian parliament was inaugurated on July 17 after the general elections that gave victory to the opposition coalition led by Tun Dr Mahathir. The parliament of Malaysia is bicameral and is composed of 272 deputies, of whom 70 are senators (upper house) and 222 are parliamentarians (lower house), the latter was modified in its entirety after the May 9 elections.
