Amsterdam, May 22, 2025. On Thursday night, the documentary "The Root of the Olive Tree", by the young Bolivian-Cuban filmmaker, Sergio Eguino Viera, was screened at the Filmhuis Cavia movie theater in Amsterdam, which testifies to the humanitarian drama experienced by the Palestinian people.
The activity was organized by the respective embassies of Bolivia and Cuba, accredited to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and was attended by their diplomatic representatives, as well as the Palestinian ambassador, Ammar Hijazi.
The head of the Bolivian diplomatic mission, Ambassador Roberto Fernández Sarmiento, referred to the international efforts to put an end to the catastrophe being experienced by the population in Gaza and stressed his government's support for the defense of the rights of the Palestinian people.
For her part, Cuban Ambassador Eva Yelina Silva highlighted her country's historic support for Palestine, as well as its firm condemnation of the genocide committed by the Israeli government for more than 70 years. She denounced the flagrant violation of the rights of a people to self-determination and independence, apartheid, racism and illegal occupation of territories.
Ambassador Hihazi thanked all the voices raised today in favor of his people and insisted that the struggle for ultimate justice must not stop.
In attendance were young people belonging to various organizations that condemn the Israeli genocide, as well as activists linked to the defense of just causes.
"The Root of the Olive Tree" is a hymn to life and to the invincible fighting spirit of a people. Its protagonists: Watan, Omaima, Murid, Baylasan and Bassel share stories of struggle, loss and hope. Through their letters, their daily life and their memories, intertwined with the impotence of being far away, they express their unwavering faith in a free future for Palestine, always with the constant support of Cuba, the country that welcomes them.
