Christchurch, 27 May 2025.- As part of his official visit to the city of Christchurch, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to New Zealand, Luis Ernesto Morejón Rodríguez, held a productive meeting with Mr. Duncan Sandeman, representative of the Office of the Mayor, and Mr. Milinda Peris, from the Civic and International Relations Team of the Christchurch City Council.
During the meeting, both parties discussed potential areas of collaboration between Cuba and the city of Christchurch, with a special emphasis on the academic and cultural sectors. The Ambassador highlighted his country’s interest in strengthening ties with local educational and cultural institutions, as well as in promoting the exchange of experiences in education, the arts, and heritage.
The meeting allowed for the identification of shared areas of interest that could lead to joint initiatives in the short and medium term, including academic exchange programs, cultural exhibitions, and other forms of cooperation that foster mutual understanding between the two people.
Mr. Sandeman and Mr. Peris expressed their willingness to continue exploring concrete avenues for collaboration and underscored the value of such exchanges in building international relationships at the local level.
The Ambassador’s visit to Christchurch is part of a broader tour across various regions of New Zealand aimed at strengthening ties with local authorities, social actors, and communities interested in learning more about Cuba and its culture.
