Abuja, May 29, 2026.- The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Federal Republic of Nigeria Miriam Morales Palmero held a cordial working meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Cuban Ambassador congratulated the Nigerian Foreign Minister on her recent appointment and conveyed the official congratulatory message sent by her Cuban counterpart, reaffirming Cuba’s willingness to continue strengthening the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between both nations.
During the exchange, the Cuban Ambassador updated the Nigerian Foreign Minister on the complex economic situation currently faced by Cuba as a result of the economic suffocation policy imposed by the United States government, further intensified through the tightening of unilateral sanctions against the Island.
She also explained the negative impact of the executive orders issued on January 29 and May 1 by the U.S. administration, as well as the recent false accusations made against Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.
The Cuban diplomat reiterated Cuba’s firm rejection of these hostile actions, which constitute a new escalation in Washington’s aggressive policy against the Cuban people and its historic leaders.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to review pending issues on the bilateral agenda, with both sides agreeing on the importance of continuing to expand and consolidate cooperation and exchanges in areas of common interest.
The Ambassador was accompanied by the Third Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba in Nigeria Ana Flavia Gómez Pavot.
The meeting took place in a fraternal atmosphere of mutual respect and friendship, reflecting the historic relations existing between Cuba and Nigeria.
