Abuja, August 26, 2026. – The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Miriam Morales Palmero, held a cordial meeting with Hajiya Hadiza M. Umar, a distinguished philanthropist and founder of the Hajiya Hadiza Foundation, a Nigerian organisation dedicated to humanitarian assistance, education, healthcare and the empowerment of the most vulnerable sectors of society.
During the meeting, the Cuban Ambassador was accompanied by the Third Secretary of the Embassy, Ana Flavia Gómez Pavot, while Hajiya Hadiza M. Umar was accompanied by her Executive Assistant and the Director of the Foundation's hospital, Dr. Abubakar Jimoh.
The meeting provided an opportunity to learn about the Foundation's main areas of work and projects, aimed at improving the living conditions of vulnerable communities, including women, young people, widows, orphans and persons with disabilities, through initiatives in training, education, healthcare and humanitarian assistance.
Recognised for her philanthropic work and commitment to social development, Hajiya Hadiza M. Umar has devoted an important part of her career to serving communities most in need and promoting opportunities for their welfare and development.
During the exchange, the Foundation's founder expressed her interest in establishing and developing relations of cooperation with Cuba, particularly in the health sector.
Hajiya Hadiza M. Umar highlighted the recognised quality and experience of Cuban healthcare professionals, as well as the achievements of Cuba's healthcare system and the development of the country's biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
In this regard, she expressed her interest in exploring possible avenues of cooperation that would make it possible to draw on Cuba's experience and capacities in the field of healthcare, with a view to contributing to the projects and initiatives promoted by the Foundation.
As part of the visit, the Cuban delegation toured the facilities of the Hajiya Hadiza Foundation and had the opportunity to learn first-hand about some of its projects. The Ambassador and the Third Secretary subsequently visited the facilities of the hospital that the Foundation plans to inaugurate in the near future.
During the tour, Dr. Abubakar Jimoh, Director of the hospital, provided information on the characteristics and future plans of the new healthcare institution and its potential to expand access to medical services for the population.
Ambassador Miriam Morales Palmero expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to learn directly about the work carried out by the Foundation and conveyed the willingness of the Embassy of Cuba to continue exchanges on possible areas of common interest.
The meeting made it possible to identify common ground regarding the importance of cooperation, solidarity and access to quality healthcare services as fundamental elements for the well-being and development of peoples.
Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining contact and continuing to explore opportunities for collaboration, particularly in areas where Cuba's experience and the projects developed by the Hajiya Hadiza Foundation could contribute to initiatives of mutual benefit.
The meeting also reaffirmed the interest in continuing to strengthen ties between Cuba and the different actors of Nigerian society committed to solidarity, human development and the well-being of communities.
