Abuja, 23 April 2026. – The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, held a fruitful meeting with the National Chairman of the ruling party All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda within the framework of the longstanding ties of friendship and cooperation that unite both countries.
During the cordial exchange, the Cuban diplomat provided an update on the complex situation facing Cuba as a result of the tightening of the hostile policy of the Government of the United States, the continuation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed against the Island for more than six decades, as well as its severe repercussions on strategic sectors of the national economy, particularly the energy sector and essential services for the population.
The Ambassador also highlighted the steadfast determination of the Cuban people and Government to continue advancing in the defense of their sovereignty and independence, while expressing gratitude for the historic expressions of support from sister nations in Africa, including Nigeria.
For his part, the President of the APC thanked the Ambassador for the visit and reiterated his feelings of solidarity with the Cuban people. He also acknowledged Cuba’s legacy of resistance and dignity, as well as the historic contributions of the Caribbean nation to the liberation struggles and development of the African continent, particularly in the fields of health, education and human resource training.
Both sides agreed on the importance of continuing to strengthen the ties between Cuba and Nigeria, based on mutual respect, South-South cooperation, and a deep historical relationship forged through anti-colonial struggles and the defense of the self-determination of peoples.
The Ambassador was accompanied by the Third Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba in Nigeria Ana Flavia Gómez Pavot.
The meeting took place in a friendly, constructive and highly cordial atmosphere.
