Oslo, April 8, 2025. From April 2 to 4, fulfilling an invitation extended to the Diplomatic Corps by the Secretary General of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Torgeir Larsen, the Ambassador of Cuba, Maité Rivero Torres, made a visit to Tromsø, the capital of the Norwegian High North.
Along with her colleagues, the Ambassador received firsthand information about a strategically important region, as well as an overview of Norway´s approach to the challenges posed by climate, demography, and geography in the High North.
The Norwegian Seafood Council and the Regional Division of Innovation Norway hosted several activities. A visit to Polaria, the Arctic Experience Center, also took place.
The second day of the program focused on science, technology, and research, with lectures by executives, experts and researchers from the Arctic University of Norway (UiT), the Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) and the Norwegian Polar Institute.
The activities on board the ice-breaking research vessel Crown Prince Haakon and the Coast Guard´s patrol vessel KV Hopen, which included an excursion into the Balsfjorden, were of great interest.
A reception co-hosted by the Deputy Mayor of Tromsø, Sigrid Bjørnhaug Hammer, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provided an exceptional opportunity to meet and interact with local personalities from different sectors . (Embassy of Cuba in Norway)
