The bilateral political relations between Cuba and Azerbaijan, the common areas to increase commercial cooperation, the development of biotechnology, medicine and tourism as well as the economic and commercial blockade suffered by the Cuban nation for more than 62 years, were some of the topics covered in the exclusive interview offered by the Island's ambassador, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, to the Azerbaijani press body “AzVisión.az”, on the occasion of the National Day of Cuba.
The Cuban diplomat highlighted the favorable state of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Cuba and recalled the meeting held last October 2019 between the presidents of both nations, Ilham Aliyev and Miguel Díaz-Canel.
Nieves Portuondo stressed that seeking ways to increase exchange in the fields of biotechnology and medicine, education and tourism, will help trade links to occupy an important position.
The ambassador explained the actions carried out to promote the commercial and tourist events that take place on the Island and the Cuban participation in international fairs held in Azerbaijan.
During the extensive interview and in response to three questions from journalist Parvana Sultanova, the ambassador condemned the economic and financial blockade of the United States government against his country, the application of the Helms-Burton Act, the prohibitions on American tourists from traveling to Cuba and other aggressions directed from Washington.
The diplomat stressed that in the condemnation against the blockade carried out at the UN in November 2019, Cuba received the strongest solidarity and support from most nations.
