Cuban Ambassador participates in 35th Annual Agricultural Show.

Saint Mary, 10 April 2023. At the invitation of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica Fermín Quiñones Sánchez participated in the 35th Annual Agricultural Show at the Grays Inn Sports Complex, Annotto Bay, St. Mary. The event, organised by the JAS and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, focused on the theme "Smart Agriculture: optimising the power of automation and digitalisation for a sustainable future", and allowed for exchanges with government and local authorities, parliamentarians, academics and producers and entrepreneurs linked to this sector.

During his speech, the Cuban diplomat highlighted the need and the existing potential between the Caribbean states to advance complementarity in agriculture, achieve food sovereignty and establish more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agricultural systems, through the application of science, knowledge and innovation.

Quiñones stressed that, despite the serious impact of the US government's economic, commercial and financial blockade on agriculture, Cuba is in a position to share its experience and knowledge with Jamaica.  In this context, he ratified the Cuban government's willingness to continue working together to increase and diversify the exchange of goods and services, as well as bilateral cooperation in agriculture and agro-industry.
