Nicosia, Cyprus, June 2, 2026.- The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, participated this Tuesday in the inauguration of respective sculptural ensembles in honor of two great exponents of Cypriot music and poetry, Michalakis Giasemidis and Kostas Katsantonis, monuments unveiled in the Park of Poets and Spiritual Creators of Engomi, in this capital.
According to those present, a national and cultural debt has been fulfilled with both figures, whose works and memories enrich the musical and poetic dialectical legacy that Giasemidis and Katsantonis, respectively, sowed in the Cypriot idiosyncrasy, and which today mark and distinguish the cultural heritage of this Eastern Mediterranean island.
Officially inaugurated by the honorable Mr. Mario Hartsiotis, Commissioner of the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus, the evening encompassed, with absolute institutional respect and that of the respective families, the enriching imprint of both figures on the national culture.
As Mario Hartsiotis summarized in his speech, “Kostas Katsantonis served poetry with authenticity and inner strength. His work was born from life experiences, from social reality, from the historical trials of our homeland, and from a deep human sensitivity.”
On behalf of both families, the poet’s son, composer, and writer Adamos Katsantonis conveyed warm thanks to the Cuban diplomat and to all the authorities and attendees of the event, to those who contributed to the creation of this monument and to the honorable program conceived and presented by the renowned poet and novelist, Loukia Stavrinoú.
Adamos recalled that the monuments of Kostas Katsantonis and Michalakis Giasemidis will eternally adorn the park of poets and spiritual creators of Engomi, and henceforth become “a bright beacon of inspiration and cultural continuity for all of Cyprus.”
