Cuban Ambassador participates in Namibian television program.

Namibia, June 24th, 2021- Sidenio Acosta, Ambassador of Cuba to Namibia, participated in the program “Good Morning Namibia”, on the national radio and television network NBC, to discuss the recent vote against the US blockade in the UN.

The Cuban diplomat highlighted the support of the intentional community for the Cuban cause, which has voted 28 times in favour of the resolution "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo of the United States of America against Cuba."

Acosta pointed out that this time 184 countries voted in favour of the Cuban document, 3 abstained and, as usual, the United States and Israel did so against it.

In the same way, he explained the damage caused to the Cuban people by the 243 measures applied by the Donald Trump government, some of them approved in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and which are still in force.

The diplomat from the Caribbean island informed the Namibian audience that despite this tightening of the blockade, Cuba has been able to develop 5 vaccine candidates against Covid-19. He explained the results obtained by the “Abdala” and “Soberana 02” vaccines, which present a percentage of efficacy of 92.28% and 62% respectively.

Likewise, he recalled the 57 specialized brigades of the Henry Reeve medical contingent that have been sent to 40 countries to fight against Covid-19, in addition to the more than 28,000 Cuban health workers who already are in 59 countries, including Namibia. .

Finally, Ambassador Acosta conveyed the gratitude of the Cuban people and government to Namibia for its historic support in the fight against the blockade, both in the United Nations and in the African Union.
