Kuala Lumpur, January 19, 2026. Cuban Ambassador Yadira Ledesma Hernández participated this Monday in the opening ceremony of the fifth session of the 15th Parliament of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
The ceremony was attended by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia (Yang di-Pertuan Agong), and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the two Deputy Prime Ministers—Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof—as well as the Speakers of the Dewan Rakyat (House of Representatives) and the Dewan Negara (Senate). The event included a cannon salute, and after the national anthem was played, the King inspected the Guard of Honor before proceeding to the Dewan Rakyat.
In his royal address marking the start of the parliamentary session, Sultan Ibrahim addressed key priorities for Malaysia in the new legislative period, emphasizing the importance of putting national interests above regional disputes and strengthening social cohesion. He stressed the need to continue the fight against corruption in various sectors of the state and reaffirmed the importance of improving sectors such as education, housing, health, and transportation under the 13th Malaysia Plan. Furthermore, he underscored that any alternative education system must respect Malaysia's national language and history as part of building identity and collective well-being.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the diplomatic corps accredited to Malaysia, and facilitated a brief exchange with the Chairman of the Parliament's Special Select Committee on Foreign Relations and International Trade.
