Cuban Ambassador pays a courtesy visit to the Lao Minister of Education and Sports

Vientiane, June 22, 2022. Dr. Phout Simmalavong, Minister of Education and Sports received the Cuban Ambassador Enna Viant Valdes accompanied by senior executives of that ministry. The headline referred to the presence and imprint of Cuba on the Lao people for a long time, when the history of friendship and cooperation began to be woven with the arrival of Cuban doctors in the 1970s.

Dr. Simmmalavong, in an pleasant  and extensive talk, recalled the beginnings of that state body in charge of attending to the Education, Science and Sports sector up to the present day, with an essential weight in the formation of new generations and the human capital committed to the progress of this country.

Many other issues have been exchanged, among them, he recognized the values ​​and results of Cuban Education and Sports. Just by mentioning it, he confirmed that hundreds of professionals graduated from universities throughout the island and mentioned the 6 gold medals obtained in regional games, thanks to the collaboration of Cuban coaches. This is the result of the modest and intense contribution of Cuba in promoting mutually beneficial cooperation and the enduring friendship between peoples.

Finally, Dr. Simmalavong thanked the gesture of the Cuban Government in offering a new group of scholarships to Lao students who will begin their preparation in the 2022-2023 academic year.
