Cuban Ambassador pays courtesy visit to Principal Secretary of the Seychelles Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Victoria, September 4th._ During a courtesy visit, Cuban Ambassador Martha Hernández Caneiro congratulated Ambassador Ian Madeleine, recently appointed as Seychelles' Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, they discussed areas in which cooperation ties are currently being developed, such as health, the arts, and culture, as well as the potential for expanding these ties to other areas. Both parties expressed their willingness to continue developing collaboration and political dialogue.  

On behalf of Cuba, the ambassador reiterated her gratitude to the Seychelles government for firmly maintaining its position in favor of lifting the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for more than six decades.

Present on behalf of Seychelles were the directors general of Bilateral and Multilateral Affairs, Lindy Ernesta and Amenda Padayachy, respectively, as well as other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

On the Cuban side, Minister Counselor Tomás Méndez Parra participated.

Ambassador Madeleine recently completed his term as Seychelles' permanent representative to the UN and non resident ambassador to Cuba.

During his tenure, he accompanied Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism Sylvestre Radegonde during official visits to Havana in 2024.
