Cairo, April 28, 2025. Cuban Ambassador to Egypt, Alexander Pellicer Moraga, paid a well-deserved tribute to the historic Egyptian and Arab leader Gamal Abdel Nasser at the mausoleum where his mortal remains rest, located in a mosque that bears his name in this capital.
The diplomat from the Greater Antilles laid a wreath at the tomb of the Egyptian leader, and highlighted the figure and legacy of the former president for the Arab countries and the rest of the world.
He later visited the museum dedicated to the leader of the 1952 Revolution, who overthrew the Monarchy and established the Republic in Egypt, and later became president of this North African nation from 1954 to 1970.
Opened in 2016, the museum occupies Nasser's former residence in the Heliopolis neighborhood, where he lived with his family for nearly two decades, and houses videos, photos, personal and working pieces, as well as gifts from foreign dignitaries, including a humidor donated by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
Precisely, Pellicer highlighted the meeting of both leaders in New York, in 1960, and their fight against poverty and inequality.
Nasser is an example not only for the region but also for the rest of the world, he stressed.
Pellicer was accompanied by Abdel Hakim Nasser, son of the former president, who explained various aspects of his father's life and work, as well as anecdotes and transcendental historical events for the country, such as the nationalization of the Suez Canal, the agrarian reform or the wars against Israel.
The tribute was also attended by Odalys Capote Peña, first secretary in charge of Consular Affairs of the Cuban embassy, Ambassador Ashraf Mounir, director of Latin America and the Caribbean of the local Foreign Ministry, and members of the Egypt-Cuba Friendship Association, including its president, journalist Kamal Gaballa.
