Kingston, January 12, 2023. Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica Fermín Quiñones Sánchez paid a working visit to the region of Port Antonio, in the parish of Portland.
The Cuban diplomat spoke at the monthly session of the Portland Municipal Corporation, in which he ratified the willingness of our country to strengthen the ties of cooperation with Jamaica despite the brutal impact of the measures imposed by the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the US government against Cuba.
At that meeting, Acting Mayor Paul Thompson expressed the need to re-establish sister city relations between Port Antonio and Santiago de Cuba, initiated in June 2011. He advocated strengthening cooperation between the two nations, primarily in the areas of health, education, agriculture, fisheries and sports.
As part of the programme, the Ambassador participated in the annual meeting of the Jamaica Beekeepers Association and a meeting with officials of the College of Agriculture, Science and Education.
At the conclusion of his visit, he had an emotional exchange with members of the Medical and Educational Brigades working in the region.
