Nassau, March 4, 2026.– In a solemn ceremony held at Government House, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Juan Carlos Marcof Sánchez, presented his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency the Most Honourable Dame Cynthia Pratt, Governor General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
Also in attendance were Jack Thompson, Permanent Secretary to the Governor General; Gian Dean, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Bahamas, in charge of the Office of Multilateral and Political Affairs; as well as other officials from the Bahamian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Government House. Representing the Cuban side was First Secretary Imara López Benedico.
During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on the current state of bilateral relations. Ambassador Marcof reaffirmed the Cuban Government’s willingness to continue strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation for the benefit of both peoples. He also highlighted the historic ties uniting Cuba and The Bahamas, grounded in mutual respect, solidarity, and cooperation.
Governor General reiterated The Bahamas’ position against the blockade and acknowledged the negative impact of the most recent measures adopted by the Government of the United States against the Cuban people. She likewise expressed gratitude for Cuba’s valuable contribution to The Bahamas in areas such as health, education, agriculture, and technical assistance, among other fields of cooperation.
Cuba and The Bahamas established diplomatic relations on November 30, 1974, and have since maintained close ties of collaboration, both bilaterally and in the multilateral arena.
