Nassau, November 26, 2019. At noon today, Alejandro García del Toro presented the Letters of Credence that accredit him as Cuban Ambassador to The Bahamas. The ceremony took place at the residence of the Governor General, Cornelius Smith.
In his remarks, the Cuban diplomat stressed that on November 30th, both countries will celebrate 45 years of the establishment of their diplomatic relations. He pointed out that despite the challenges Cuba faces, our government is committed to the principles of solidarity and collaboration with other sister nations.
The Governor-General Cornelius A. Smith highlighted that relations between the two countries have deepened and have reaped mutual benefits. He thanked our government for the humanitarian aid sent to his country after the passage of Hurricane Dorian. Cornelius Smith also advocated maintaining collaboration and sharing experiences in education, health and climate change, among other areas of mutual interest. He praised for the Bahamian students who have pursuing courses in Cuba, particularly in medicine.
Officials of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Nassau participated in the ceremony. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peter Deveaux-Isaacs, attended for the Bahamian side, accompanied by officials and assistants of the Office of the Governor General.
