Geneva, Switzerland, 2 May 2025 – His Excellency Mr. Kamal Kishore, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, met today with Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson, Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva.
During their fruitful exchange, Mr. Kamal Kishore emphasized Cuba’s invaluable expertise in comprehensive disaster risk management.
The Special Representative described the Island as a global benchmark in responding to natural phenomena, particularly in building resilience and response capabilities to various emergency situations.
In turn, the Cuban ambassador reaffirmed Cuba’s active and constructive commitment to the success of the 8th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, a major event to be held in Geneva from 2 to 6 June. He confirmed the participation of a high-level Cuban delegation, led by Major General Ramón Pardo Guerra, Chief of the National Civil Defense Staff.
The two officials also exchanged views on the short- and medium-term priorities of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, with the aim of further strengthening bilateral cooperation for mutual benefit.
