Cuban ambassador to Saint Lucia, Alejandro Simancas Marin, has responded to allegations that the nation is using its medical missions programme as a form of human trafficking. The Ambassador explain to the Loop St. Lucia media "The United States does not have any legitimacy or any moral to question not only Cuba but any other country," the ambassador said. Cuban doctors were sent to several countries around the world to assist in the fight against the coronavirus. Saint Lucia was among these countries and received 113 medical personnel from Cuba.
According to the Cuban ambassador, the accusations does not have a real base, they are information guided by the political interests of the United States and politically manipulated.
"This is not based on real information but manipulated information. It's a political issue for the United States. They are using lies with political purpose and this is another sample of that. They are trying to sanction some countries for having the Cuba Medical Brigade... all politically motivated by some people in the United States Senate."
He continued: "This is a moment of cooperation and international solidarity to help people to save lives so this is what they should do rather than trying to hurt the Cuban international medical corporation, which is recognized by the peoples of the world, their governments and the United Nations as an example of a south south cooperation. Being the biggest economic power in the world, the US should be involved in the efforts of collaboration rather than trying to manipulate lies with a purpose of domination and hegemony."
