With the presence of Grenadian authorities and diplomatic representatives, Cuba’s Ambassador to Grenada, Yadirys Echenique Paz, led the commemoration of July 26, Day of National Rebellion, in an event that reaffirmed the historical significance of the date and the friendship between both peoples.
In her remarks, the Ambassador recalled that July 26 is not only a historical event, but also a symbol of dignity and resistance. She emphasized that the assaults on the Moncada barracks in Santiago de Cuba and the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks in Bayamo demonstrated the right of peoples to fight for their freedom and to defend their dreams — a legacy that continues to inspire new generations.
The diplomat further highlighted that in Grenada this anniversary takes on a special meaning, since solidarity has always been a bridge between the two nations. “We celebrate not only the memory of a historical event, but the continuity of a bond that grows stronger with each meeting, each shared project, each gesture of mutual support,” she affirmed.
Echenique Paz also underscored bilateral cooperation in sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, and technical training, noting that this relationship translates into tangible benefits for communities. At the same time, she denounced that the blockade imposed by the United States constitutes an obstacle that limits resources and hinders projects, although it has not succeeded in breaking Cuba’s will to share what it has.
Just weeks after his passing, the Ambassador evoked with sadness Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, one of the most prominent participants in the Moncada assault, and recalled that the centenary of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz will soon be celebrated.
In her words, the anniversary of July 26 reminds us that rebellion is not only an act of resistance, but also a commitment to life. That conviction, she said, drives Cuba and Grenada to continue walking together, transforming adversity into creative strength and turning memory into momentum for the future.
