SRI LANKA, April 29, 2020. - The Cuban Ambassador, Juana Elena Ramos Rodríguez, offered an interview to Channel 1 of the National Television (Rupavahini State Corporation), where she referred to the measures adopted by Cuba to stop and control the COVID -19 pandemic, which have been taken in strict compliance with the protocols established by the World Health Organization.
Likewise, the Ambassador referred to the cooperation and solidarity provided by Cuba to other countries to combat COVID 19. Our country has responded to various requests for cooperation without stopping to evaluate political coincidences or economic advantages. In total, more than 1,450 men and women in white coats, belonging to the Henry Reeve contingent, have joined the 22 nations of Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and the Middle East in the midst of the pandemic. They joined in the medical collaboration brigades in 60 nations, which have also joined the effort to combat this disease where they where they were already providing services.
We have also shared some of the medicines produced by the island that, according to our practice, have proven efficacy in preventing or treating the disease.
The Ambassador emphasized that all this effort is carried out without neglecting the responsibility to protect the Cuban population, which is rigorously carried out despite the immense limitations imposed by the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against our country. The blockade places extraordinary pressure on Cuba to guarantee the material supplies and equipment that support the public health system and the specific conditions to face this pandemic.
Despite the empire's policy, there is an undeniable reality. Cuba has nine doctors for every thousand inhabitants, an almost exclusive luxury, and if that were not enough, in the coming months 9,000 more will graduate. It has 84,000 nurses, and 34,000 nursing and health technology students are studying, a professional strength available to its population.
Cuba is convinced that the moment demands cooperation and solidarity
