The Cuban ambassador visited the province of Xayaboury, at the invitation of its Governor

Vientiane, February 2024. The Cuban ambassador, Enna Viant, visited the province of Xayaboury on the 16th and 17th of this month, at the invitation of its governor Cro. Phongsavang Hitthavong

After the official meeting and being received by the governor, deputy governor and other senior leaders of the province, the Cuban diplomat had the opportunity to exchange with President Thongloun Sisoulith, the Minister of Education and Sports and the Vice Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, among others.

It was an occasion to enjoy the cultural tradition of the seventeenth Elephant Festival in Sanam Luang, Vieng Keo village, Hongsa district, a memorable event since 2007 elevated to the national category, which gained relevance this year, dedicated to stimulating tourism development in Laos and promoting cultural exchange under the slogan "Visit Laos in 2024" that will undoubtedly enhance this transcendental activity. On the other hand, the festival is also aimed at the preservation and protection of the elephants that have been part of the way of life of the inhabitants and constitute an important natural heritage of the province.

The traditional Baci ceremony was not missing at the elephant festival in Xayaboury, appreciated by the enthusiastic audience of more than 9,000 people, representatives of all ethnic groups throughout the country who attended the spectacular event from the early hours of the morning, including local leaders, from neighboring provinces, at the national level and representatives of the Diplomatic Corps.

Within the framework of the positive exchanges, wishes were expressed and shared for the success of significant events such as the pro tempore Lao presidency of ASEAN, for the strengthening of bilateral cooperation and for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which are being celebrated this year.
