Islamabad, 26 February 2026. On Thursday morning, Mariam Bugti, Director of Canada and Latin America in the Americas Division of the Pakistani Foreign Ministry received Cuban Ambassador Damián Cordero Torres on a courtesy visit.
After the courtesy greetings and introductions, the meeting provided an opportunity for a brief review of the state of bilateral relations between the two countries, with the Cuban side expressing its gratitude for the Pakistani government's official rejection of the US blockade policy against Cuba, which is evident every year in the United Nations vote. The official considered it a duty to maintain this commitment because of what Cuba has meant in terms of solidarity and dedication. Ambassador Cordero Torres then commented to the Pakistani diplomat on the dramatic situation facing the Cuban people because of the Executive Order issued by President Donald Trump, with an increase in coercive measures, mainly to prevent the supply of fuel to the island and with the clear objective of ending the Revolution at any cost.
Finally, the Cuban Ambassador conveyed his condolences for the loss of lives in recent terrorist actions that have taken place in different regions of the country and reiterated Cuba's unequivocal position against terrorism in all its forms. Both parties agreed to continue working to maintain the level of respect achieved in bilateral relations.
