Cuban Ambassador Visits the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas
Nassau, July 15, 2026 – The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Juan Carlos Marcof Sánchez, accompanied by the Embassy’s First Secretary, Imara López Benedico, paid a working visit to the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas (NAGB) with the aim of strengthening cultural exchanges and exploring new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
The Cuban delegation was welcomed by the Gallery’s Executive Director, Maelyn Ford; Deputy Director, Marysa Malone; and Curatorial Director, Jodi Minnis-Rolle, who guided them through the Gallery’s principal exhibition spaces and provided an overview of the institution’s work in preserving, researching, promoting, and showcasing The Bahamas’ artistic and cultural heritage.
During the meeting, Ambassador Marcof Sánchez underscored the essential role of culture as a bridge between peoples and reaffirmed the Embassy of Cuba’s commitment to strengthening ties with The Bahamas’ leading cultural institutions through initiatives that foster artistic exchange, dialogue among creators, and the promotion of the cultural heritage of both nations.
The visit offered an opportunity to appreciate the richness, diversity, and uniqueness of Bahamian artistic expression while facilitating a productive exchange on potential areas of collaboration aimed at enhancing bilateral cultural relations and creating new avenues for mutual understanding and cultural engagement.
For their part, the leadership of the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas reaffirmed the importance of promoting exchanges between the cultural institutions of both countries and recognized the value of art as a powerful instrument for fostering mutual understanding, creativity, and intercultural dialogue.
