Cuban Ambassador welcomes Ashanti traditional leader visit

Nana Odikwour Baah Kokroko III, Shediem's traditional leader, paid a courtesy visit to the Cuban Ambassador to Ghana, Pedro Luis Despaigne González.

During the meeting, the traditional leader and the Ambassador exchanged on the historical relations between the peoples of Cuba and Ghana, and on the date back to the pre-colonial period in Ghana and colonial times in Cuba. The Traditional Chief explained some elements of the history of the Ashanti Kingdom and over the role of the traditional Chieftaincy within the Ghanaian political system.

The Cuban Ambassador made a synthesis of the different stages of struggle of the Cuban people, and addressed a group of aspects related to the social achievements of the Cuban Revolution. In addition, through examples, he emphasizes the importance of the African heritage in the formation of Cuban nationality.

Cooperative ties existing between the two countries, grounded since the establishment of diplomatic relations in December 1959, which emphasizes the solidarity and sustained practice of the Caribbean island in the preparation of African human resources and from Ghana in particular were also outlined.

In the fraternal meeting also attended by the Ghanaian side the traditional leader Nana Amoako Grampa I, Mr. Kofi Lugaz, entrepreneur in charge of the social projects in that traditional area, the Personal Secretary of the Chief, Mr. Ben Asante and the traditional leader´s wife. The First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy, Julio César Sánchez Martínez also participated in the meeting.
