Cuban Ambassador to Zambia discusses the island's situation and bilateral cooperation with President Hakainde Hichilema.
LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – May 25, 2026 – Within the framework of the Africa Day celebrations, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Zambia, Marileydis Dueñas Morales, held a brief meeting with the President of the Republic of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, to discuss the current situation of the Caribbean nation and the relations between both countries.
During the exchange, the Cuban diplomat outlined the complex situation the island is going through and the threats of military intervention by the U.S. Government. In this context, Dueñas Morales formally requested a public statement of support from the Zambian government against the energy blockade imposed by the United States government on Cuba, which is severely affecting the Cuban people.
For his part, President Hakainde Hichilema reaffirmed the traditional and historical support that Zambia has provided to Cuba and urged both delegations to focus bilateral efforts on the development agenda.
