Geneva, June 2, 2025. The Cuban delegation that will participate in the sessions of the 8th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, from June 2 to 6, is already in this city.
The Cuban delegation, led by Major General Ramón Pardo Guerra, Chief of the National Civil Defense Staff, will carry out an intense work agenda, which will include exchanges with various counterparts on Cuba's experiences in prevention, planning, rapid response, and recovery from the impact of natural disasters.
The Global Platform is a forum that fosters the exchange of information, debates on recent developments, the sharing of knowledge, and the establishment of alliances between different sectors, with the aim of achieving disaster risk reduction through better communication and coordination among the various actors involved.
The Cuban Civil Defense will denounce the direct impacts of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on the country, which hinders development capabilities in the area of comprehensive management and the adoption of measures aimed at reducing disaster risk.
Despite the complex economic situation the country is experiencing as a result of the tightening of the blockade to unprecedented levels, Cuba's impressive results have become an international benchmark, demonstrating the ability to manage natural disasters effectively and humanely, even with limited resources.
